I have been wanting to visit the KL Forest Eco Park for a long time (mainly for its instagram-famous treetop canopy walk). Information about the KL Forest Eco Park is quite scattered and inconsistent (some said it was closed down). So I decided to try my luck there last month and indeed it was closed due to maintenance. Fortunately I managed to speak to the maintenance officer there and he told me that it should be reopen in November. Having revisited it on last Saturday, I proudly announce that, as of 9 November 2019, the KL Forest Eco Park is reopen to visitors and admission is (still) free!

The KL Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba KL), formerly known as Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is the only rain forest nature reserve at the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The beauty of this Eco Park is that it leads you directly to KL Tower via a couple of trails. The trail that I’d like to share in this post is the Canopy Walk Trail. Not only the scenery is extremely instagrammable, it is also the easiest route to KL Tower.

I will also share with you guys some tips on how to get here without spending a dime on transportation. So make sure to read till the end!

There are a few entrances to the KL Forest Eco Park. I recommend taking the entrance through the NRE Interactive Gallery along Jalan Raja Chulan.

From here, just follow the direction that leads you to KL Tower. Then, take the Canopy Walk trail and you should reach KL Tower in about 15 minutes.

After this series of steps, you will arrive at the starting point of the canopy walk hanging bridge. Take the spiral staircase to begin your little adventure!

Friendly reminder to bring along insect repellent. I encountered some fire ants near the treetop canopy walk as well as the spiral staircases and bites from those are not pleasant. Also, watch out for monkeys too! Do not feed and hurt them =)

After about 3 – 4 stretches of suspension bridges, you will reach the base of KL Tower on the peak of Bukit Nanas. It was a pretty fun morning workout for me going up to KL Tower via the KL Forest Eco Park. Hopefully they will keep on maintaining the park as it is a great attraction for nature lovers who visit Kuala Lumpur.

How To Get Here

Alright here’s a tip to get to the KL Forest Eco Park by taking the GOKL Bus. There are four lines of GOKL buses which roams around KL (Green, Purple, Blue and Red Line). The fare is free of charge. To get to the entrance of KL Forest Eco Park, you should take the Purple Line. The frequency of the bus is around 15 minutes.

The exterior of the GOKL buses are the same. So make sure you read the LED display at the front of the bus and take the correct line (Purple Line).

Here’s the map of GOKL Bus routes.

Start from any station and alight at Menara Olympia (after Muzium Telekom)

Your destination should be the Menara Olympia stop after Muzium Telekom. I started my journey from the Bukit Bintang stop (near McDonalds and opposite Maybank) along Jalan Sultan Ismail. You will need to alight and change to another Purple Line Bus at the Pasar Seni terminal before continuing on the journey.

Then, alight at Menara Olympia stop and walk about 2 – 3 minutes along Jalan Raja Chulan in the direction of the traffic and you will reach the KL Forest Eco Park entrance.

So there you have it, my simple sharing of the beautiful KL Forest Eco Park. It is a nice place to visit with friends and families, or even for some “me time” in this little rain forest nested in the heart of KL City Centre.

There are also a few other trails that you can try out on your way down such as the Penarahan Trail, Shorea Trail, Merawan Trail and so on. For sure I will be going for a few more times to try out all the trails. If you have any question regarding KL Forest Eco Park, do leave me a comment and I will try my best to answer =)
