Ever since Pulau Sembilan was closed down, we thought we would never be able to see those beautiful blue sand again. Thanks to the hard work of Nine Island Agency, now we have this revamped blue sand + Sky Mirror 2D1N Package to let us have an opportunity for another close encounter with our precious blue sand again.

Blue sand (蓝眼泪) are bioluminiscent plankton which emits sparkling blue light when stimulated. It is very rare to see blue sand as only a unique combination of sea nutrients and habitat permits the condition for blue sand to thrive. Other than the waters of Pulau Sembilan Malaysia, you may also get to see blue sand at Maldives and Taiwan. There are two parts in this 2D1N tour - Blue Sand Night Tour on day 1 and Sky Mirror Tour on day 2. Sky Mirror is another attraction that is very popular due to its "instagramability" (new word invented!). The gist is to capitalize on the reflection of the water puddle in a setting of a vast sand bar. Just check out these unedited photos taken at the Sky Mirror site!

Day 1: Arrival at Nine Island Homestay at 4:30pm

We drove and parked our car at Nine Island Homestay located at Kampung Sungai Burung, Bagan Datoh, Perak. If you are not driving, you may take a bus to Teluk Intan Bus Terminal and then take a taxi to Kampung Sungai Burung.

Arrived at Nine Island Homestay, Sungai Burung Fishing Village

Kampung Sungai Burung is actually a fishing village operated since many decades ago. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staffs and brought around the Sungai Burung Fishing Village on their buggy car. Be sure to try out their homemade fish balls. Extremely delicious and fried on the spot to perfection!

The homestay rooms were refurbished from traditional bungalow houses at the fishing village. The interior was clean, equipped with aircon, water heater and WIFI supply. Some rooms have attached bathrooms while some do not.

At about 6pm, we gathered near the jetty to have our seafood steamboat dinner. Most visitors here were large groups so they had the whole table for themselves. Those who came in smaller groups like us had to share the table with other small groups. The seafood was freshly supplied from the fishing village itself.

So YUMMY~

Almost forgot to mention the beautiful sunset here!

Hmm..who is this handsome =p

After sunset, it's time for the highlight of the day - THE BLUE SAND TOUR!. We set off from the jetty at around 7:30pm towards the waters near Pulau Sembilan. It took us around 25 minutes to reach the area and as the boat pulled to a stop, staffs used a couple of nets to scoop up some blue sand from the sea. We had to switch off all light sources in order to fully embrace the amazing sight of blue sand right in front of our eyes. Just take a look at the video below:

Photos and videos doesn't do them justice really. You have to experience it personally up close!

At about 9pm, we returned to the fishing village and had our supper. There was also a karaoke stage there for those who are not shy to showcase their talents and just enjoy the moment.

Red bean soup for supper. They also served keropok

We were then brought to a narrow path on their buggy car to see fireflies. We saw fireflies on one of the trees but nothing too spectacular. After that we headed back to our rooms and called it a day.

Day 2: Sky Mirror Tour

Due to a morning downpour, our departure for Sky Mirror was delayed by half an hour. But that did not dampen our excitement. After about 15-20 minutes, we reached the Sky Mirror site which was a huge piece of sand bar. The sand here is naturally grey and there were lots of clams hiding beneath the sand. Some of us took the opportunity to pick up some of the clams while staffs set up the Sky Mirror "photo booths".

Tips: Be nice to your boatman and guide and ask them to steam those clams you caught for lunch!

It was great to see all staffs working very hard to take the perfect Sky Mirror photos for everyone. They also taught us how to pose, whether it was for large groups, small groups, couples or solo. Some of the poses were quite funny and creative to say the least.

Clearing up the sand bar for our Sky Mirror shot

Here are some photos taken during the Sky Mirror trip =) After spending almost 2 hours here, we departed back to the fishing village for lunch. And I must say the seafood platter lunch qualified as another highlight of our trip! The portion was enormous, filled with all kinds of delicious fresh seafood (including the clams we caught earlier). It was definitely one of my best meals of the year!

FISH, CLAMS, PRAWNS, SQUIDS YOU NAME IT! JUST AWESOME!

It was an unforgettable trip having experienced blue sand again and of course the sky mirror as well. While the sky mirror is more about photoshooting, the close encounter with blue sand will be what's staying in my mind for a long time. So fortunate to be staying in Malaysia where we have all these natural treasures and I hope that everybody will do our part in preserving these for generations to come.
