Sea Gypsy Village Resort, founded by the Wills Family since 1992 is one of the many resorts on Pulau Sibu (Sibu Island). Sea Gypsy Village is located at the back of the island, giving it the ownership to one of the island's most secluded beach.

We booked with Sea Gypsy through their website and made our cash payment when we checked in at the resort. The 3D2N package includes meals as well as two-way boat transfers and we also topped up RM160 for a two-way road transport from Singapore to Tanjung Leman Jetty as there are no buses that reaches Tanjung Leman.

Overview

Sea Gypsy Village comprises Traditional Malay-styled wooden atap chalets on stilts, fronting a huge green compound before the vast golden beach. As a nature lover, I personally prefer resorts which are built without compromising much on the natural landscape and Sea Gypsy Village definitely passed full marks for that.

Apart from the resort rooms, there are also the restaurant, Dive Base and main office. Upon arriving on the island, Sea Gypsy's friendly staffs would help on with your baggage and all you have to do is to collect them near the restaurant after you are done with your welcome drinks. Staffs here are predominantly British and are very helpful to show you around and escort you to your room.

The Room

There are mainly two types of rooms: Chalets and Family Chalets. We stayed in V7 which is a Chalet Room. The room which comes with an attached bathroom has a double bed with a mosquito net. There is also a broom for you to sweep the sand out of the room or through the wooden planks.

The room is small but comfortable. Although it is not air conditioned, ventilation was very good and you can sleep comfortably even during the day with the ceiling fan on.

The family chalets are bigger and nearer to the beach. One thing to note though, there is no hot water but you could request it from the staffs if you really need it especially for the kids.

Facilities & Activities

One of the main attraction about Sea Gypsy Village is that they have various activities and excursion trips lined up for you throughout the day. During our 3D2N stay, we signed up for the Sunset Trip to Lima Kechil Island (RM50 per pax), Snorkeling Trip to Mentinggi Island (RM60 per pax) and The Kampung Walk (RM25 per pax).

There is also another snorkeling trip out to Pulau Kukus which we gave a miss. So be sure to head over to their dive base to check out the excursion trips scheduled for the day. If you'd opt to stay on the island, there are also plenty of activities that you could do, as well as for your kids! Our favourite was the mini basketball court (well, not really a court).

We also heard about a jungle trekking path behind the village which will lead you across the island to Rimba Resort. Will definitely try it out next time!

Alright, and finally,

The Food

Welcome drinks! Cheers!

Meals are included in the trip package and for 3D2N, it includes 2 x breakfast, 2 x lunch and 2 x dinner. My personal favourite was the Saturday night barbecue dinner where they served buffet food with satays grilled endlessly on the spot.

We had designated dining tables according to our chalet rooms.

Not all meals are buffet style though. Our second dinner for example was a simple two-dish meal with cut fruits dessert. Overall, the foods are delicious, and cooked in different styles such as Maldivian, Mexican, Local, Indian and so on. Definitely something that we looked forward to throughout our trip.

To conclude, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the entire trip thanks to Sea Gypsy's friendly staff, clean environment and the exciting excursion trips. During our Kampung Walk, we passed by several other beaches and I'd say Sea Gypsy's beach is the best on the island! Amazingly well maintained village resort for your short getaway and extremely children friendly. Just watch out for the mosquitoes and make sure you bring along your repellent!

    • Hi Ching! I paid RM828 (3D2N) which includes two-way road transport (7-seater MPV arranged by Sea Gypsy Village Resort) from Singapore to Tanjung Leman Jetty. If you are able to arrange your own transport to Tanjung Leman then it should be cheaper.
