If you have read our post on Pulau Sibu, you would be familiar with Pulau Tinggi as well because this magnificent island was mentioned a few times in our Pulau Sibu blog post. Pulau Tinggi got its name from its tall peak - "Tinggi" in Malay means tall. Located at about 40 minutes speed boat ride from Johor Tanjung Leman Jetty, Pulau Tinggi is an island that you will not fail to miss whenever you head out to the waters of the Johor Sultan Iskandar Marine Park.
Check In & First Impression
I booked my stay at TAd Marine Resort located at Kampung Pasir Panjang. They have a 3D2N Fullboard Package that includes accommodation, meals, snorkeling trip and a waterfall jungle trekking trip. The beach at Kampung Pasir Panjang is silky white and soft. There were some minor renovation going on beside the reception building but it wasn't too disturbing. I stayed at one of the Standard Seaview Rooms - Teratai Room 73.
First impression of the place was excellent. The room was clean, spacious, cozy and is equipped with aircon and water heater. They also offer room service for you to order meals or liquor.
The Beach and The Sea
As I headed out to the beach during low tide, I was dumbfounded by the crystal clear sea in front of me. Check out these photos that I took. No filter and enhancing effects needed! For a moment I thought that I was in the Maldives =)
Although the beach was generally clean, there was some degree of sand flies buzzing around here. So make sure to put on ample insect repellent and also pack some with you if you are sensitive to these bugs.
Resort Surroundings & Facilities
The surroundings of TAd Marine Resort is serene and peaceful. Apart from the long house standard rooms, they also have deluxe chalets which are side by side twin rooms. The deluxe chalets are more expensive than standard chalets. As far as the room location is concern, they have Seaview Rooms and Garden Rooms.
Besides, they also have a Karaoke Room, Thai Massage Spa and a Sunset Bar here. So if you're tired of all the snorkeling and jungle trekking, there are places to just chill and relieve your tiredness as the sun sets.
If you are traveling with a few friends, do give the kayak a try! When I was at Pulau Tinggi, there was a family group kayaking by the shore and it seemed really fun! The rental for kayak is RM20/person.
Waterfall Jungle Trekking Trip
We began Day 2 with a morning jungle trekking trip to one of the many waterfalls on Pulau Tinggi. We were guided by TAd Marine Resort staffs who happened to be a local Pulau Tinggi boy. He told us that Pulau Tinggi has about 10 waterfalls. The one we were trekking to is the lowest one. The trek to the waterfall was easy until the last bit where we had to used the ropes and descend down some steep rocks to the waterfall area. It might look a little scary at first but was manageable.
The waterfall wasn't too spectacular but I enjoyed the trekking experience and the cooling fresh water. It's always very refreshing to visit waterfalls in the forests. The entire trekking trip (to and fro) took us around 1.5 hours.
Snorkeling Trip to Pulau Mentinggi
Believe it or not, it's my third time snorkeling at Pulau Mentinggi this time around. When I visited Pulau Sibu, we also snorkeled here. Pulau Mentinggi is a small uninhabited islet in front of Pulau Tinggi. It's not surprising that Mentinggi is a popular snorkeling spot due to its rich sea life (corals and fish) and clear waters. I could sit here all day admiring the magnificent sight of Pulau Tinggi towering from a distance.
And Finally...Food!
Meals at TAd Marine Resort were served in sets or buffet. I had the chance to experience both and the food was awesome. It is impossible to feel hungry here as the portion was huge and most importantly, tastes delicious! My favourite was the giant oyster cooked with sambal chilli paste!
Overall, it was a very pleasant trip to Pulau Tinggi. It is a very relaxing island, not too crowded and the service here is amazing. Another Johor island off my list! If you'd like to know more about the packages for Pulau Tinggi, feel free to contact us here and book with us!
